The production of vegetables and fruits will increase in Azerbaijan

The government of Azerbaijan has predicted an increase in the production of vegetables and fruits from 2024 to 2027.

According to the economic development forecast for the next four years, the government anticipates a harvest of 1.94 million tonnes of vegetables in 2024, 2.02 million tonnes in 2025, 2.07 million tonnes in 2026, and 2.114 million tonnes in 2027. The country is projected to harvest 1.4 million tonnes of fruits and berries in 2024, increasing to 1.48 million tonnes in 2025, 1.565 million tonnes in 2026, and 1.63 million tonnes in 2027.

Georgia-UAE comprehensive economic partnership agreement takes effect

The agreement on a comprehensive economic partnership between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates, which provides for the liberalization of products and services produced in Georgia, entered into force today. According to Gennadi Arveladze, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, this agreement, essentially a new generation free trade agreement, will further deepen economic integration between the two countries. Following the implementation of the agreement, the UAE will immediately open its market to several key Georgian products such as beef and mutton, honey, nuts, mineral water, most fruit and vegetable preserves, non-alcoholic beverages, nitrogen fertilizers, and textile products. The United Arab Emirates is already Georgia’s leading trade partner among Arab countries. In 2023, the trade turnover between Georgia and the UAE increased by 39% compared to the same period in the previous year, with exports rising by 73%. Additionally, the volume of investments from the UAE in Georgia increased by 29%.

Introduction of mandatory certification of agricultural crops in Georgia postponed

The introduction of compulsory certification of agricultural crops in Georgia has been postponed. The decree was due to come into force on 1 June 2024, but the government decree changed this date to 1 January 2025. Cereals, vegetables, horticultural crops, fodder crops and fruit trees will be subject to mandatory certification.
