Georgia's hazelnut farmers will receive subsidies

The Ministry of Agriculture reports that nut farmers in Georgia will receive financial support from the budget totalling GEL 29 million in 2024.

The Nut Production Promotion Programme will subsidise the cost of agrochemicals and pesticides required for nut care. The funding programme applies to farmers who own nut orchards of at least 0.2 hectares and not more than 3 hectares, with funding amounting to GEL 500 per hectare.

The targeted programme was launched in November of last year. Currently, there are over 44,000 hectares of hazelnut orchards registered in the nut cadastre across the country, with up to 90,000 hectares expected. This year, farmers received approximately GEL 21 million to purchase hazelnut care products.
