According to data from the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), EU countries imported 6.8 thousand tonnes of peeled hazelnuts from Azerbaijan between January and October 2023, which is a 23.2% decrease compared to the previous year.
The total value of these imports was €36.8 million, representing a 28.6% decrease. According to statistical data, Azerbaijan exported 3.5 thousand tonnes of hazelnuts to Germany, which represents a 1.9-fold growth, for a total of 19.2 million euros, a 1.7-fold growth.
Additionally, Azerbaijan exported 2.2 thousand tonnes of hazelnuts to Italy, which represents a 3-fold decline, for a total of 12 million euros, a 3.3-fold decline. Small volumes were also purchased by the Czech Republic, Estonia, Spain, France, Lithuania, which resumed imports of hazelnuts from Azerbaijan in October after a year, as well as Latvia, Poland and Slovakia.
Eurostat reported that in 2022, EU countries imported 10.1 thousand tonnes of hazelnuts from Azerbaijan, which is a 42.7% increase from 2021. The import was valued at 58.1 million euros, which is a 44.5% increase from the previous year.
