Exports of vegetables and fruits from Uzbekistan doubled

In January this year, exports of fruit and vegetable products from the country amounted to 146.3 thousand tonnes. In comparison with the same period of 2023, this indicator increased by 2.2 times, i.e. by 78.8 thousand tonnes.

 

According to the statistics agency, in January 2024 onions became the most popular export vegetable. Uzbekistan earned $12.7 million from the sale of 54,000 tonnes of onions. Onion exports accounted for almost one in every five dollars earned from the sale of agricultural products.

 

The main markets for horticultural exports were Russia (27.2%), Pakistan (21.2%), the People's Republic of China (13.4%) and Kazakhstan (9.2%). Exports of fruit and vegetable products in January totalled $75.4 million in value terms, an increase of 29.3 percent over the same period last year. Fruit and vegetable exports accounted for 6.8% of total exports in volume terms.
