Uzbekistan is a leader in the supply of table grapes to Georgia

Over the seven months of 2023, Georgia imported table grapes worth $2.7 million, mainly from Uzbekistan, Armenia and Iran.

In quantitative terms, imports amounted to 2,232 tons of both fresh and dried table grapes, reports EastFruit.

According to Gruzstat, the largest amount of grapes came from Armenia - $ 1,128 million (1,179 tons), followed by Uzbekistan - $ 699,400 (453 tons) and Iran - $ 467,940 (280 tons).

The top five also includes Turkey - $ 240,740 (242 tons), the Netherlands - $ 239,390 (71 tons).

Georgia-UAE comprehensive economic partnership agreement takes effect

The agreement on a comprehensive economic partnership between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates, which provides for the liberalization of products and services produced in Georgia, entered into force today. According to Gennadi Arveladze, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, this agreement, essentially a new generation free trade agreement, will further deepen economic integration between the two countries. Following the implementation of the agreement, the UAE will immediately open its market to several key Georgian products such as beef and mutton, honey, nuts, mineral water, most fruit and vegetable preserves, non-alcoholic beverages, nitrogen fertilizers, and textile products. The United Arab Emirates is already Georgia’s leading trade partner among Arab countries. In 2023, the trade turnover between Georgia and the UAE increased by 39% compared to the same period in the previous year, with exports rising by 73%. Additionally, the volume of investments from the UAE in Georgia increased by 29%.

Introduction of mandatory certification of agricultural crops in Georgia postponed

The introduction of compulsory certification of agricultural crops in Georgia has been postponed. The decree was due to come into force on 1 June 2024, but the government decree changed this date to 1 January 2025. Cereals, vegetables, horticultural crops, fodder crops and fruit trees will be subject to mandatory certification.
