Scientists at the Research Institute of Vegetables, Melons and Potatoes under the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan have presented a new tomato variety "Mustakillik - 28" for industrial cultivation on open ground.
The yield of the new variety is about 4-5 times higher than that of other varieties grown in the country. In addition, this variety has a high sugar content, transportability and other characteristics.
According to Alisher Ismailov, head of the Samarkand Scientific Experimental Station of the Research Institute of Vegetables, Melons and Potatoes, the Mustakillik-28 variety is distinguished by a high yield and disease resistance. If on other varieties the yield of tomato on open ground is about 40-50 tons per hectare, then the yield of the new variety is 180-200 tons/ha. The sugar content in them is 7%, which is considered quite high for a tomato. In addition, the fruits of the new variety are quite juicy and transportable. At the first harvest, about 90% of the crop can be harvested, and at the second harvest, the remaining 10% of the crop.
All these characteristics of the new variety indicate that it is well suited for producers who grow tomatoes for further processing, for example, to produce tomato paste or juice concentrate.
